Gender Roles

In Dhe’nar society, gender roles are based more on caste than actual gender.

While the Dhe’nar do not respect any gender more than the other, there tend to be a greater percentage of females in the temple caste, and a higher percentage of males in the warlock caste. Male priests, however, are not unheard of, and female warlocks, although rare, have been encountered.

The warrior and worker castes are very nearly evenly split between male and female.

The priestesses are very active among the slave races, as it is the priestesses who walk among the slaves and determine how they will be bred. They are ruthless in their actions while they walk the slave pits, authorizing breeding and culling with an equal amount of disdain and heavy handedness. The slave populations view the priestesses with an odd mixture of fear and awe.

The Dhe’nar have a great respect for the women of the Temple caste. They hold the power over that which the Dhe’nar consider the ultimate honor: the perpetuation of the Dhe’nar race. This is balanced by the immunity of the Warlock caste, who are mostly male, however, an outsider’s view of Dhe’nari society tends to be colored to make the Dhe’nar seem much more matriarchal then they really are.
