The Castes in the Landing

Obviously, the traditions for joining a Caste in the Landing are a good deal different. Without the Academy, the under caverns, and other fixtures in Sharath, many of these training procedures are impossible. And, given that most people seek to join the Castes at a more advanced age, things must be rethought.

In addition to the training of new members (covered in the Culture Shock section), the Castes function mostly in their traditional roles. Why? Well, for one thing, it makes for more interesting role-play. Secondly, it helps to keep structure and form in a society of strong personalities. And third, it gives everyone a place, a function, which is theirs and theirs alone.

The Temple is still in charge of the bloodlines. This means that, before creating children in-character, you need to speak to the High Priest and High Priestess. Does this seem heavy handed? Perhaps...but understand that this also prevents in-character inconsistencies, problems with continuity and the history, and other situations that make life messy and not fun for anyone. We keep a very close rein on who is a part of our family because of the type of role-play this is, and if we allowed anyone to invite their friends in with the excuse of "this is my child", it could create misunderstandings and problems. The Temple is also in charge of a good deal of the history and rituals. This keeps a group based on creating histories by the seats of their pants from conflicting each other. And rituals make for excellent role-playing fun.

The Lorekeepers work very closely with the Temple to keep up with histories, songs and sagas. They are also an excellent resource for entertainment on foggy nights when sitting down and listening to a tale is the most you want to do.

The Warlock Caste is naturally in charge of the magic. We are enchanters and excellent resources for when you need spells. We hold our own measure of lore, and while we may seem like a stodgy, volatile bunch, we tend to be exciting to be around.

The Warrior Caste helps guard the Priests and Priestesses of the Temple, as well as providing physical support to complement the magic of the other Castes. Never underestimate these people...they are a force to be reckoned with.

In essence, the Castes are what help keep a group of outgoing role-players and dark elves working as a family. We have our squabbles, certainly...but the Castes provide a chain of command to go up, as well as people to speak to should there be a difficulty. The most important facet of all this is enjoyment and a sense of belonging, and your Caste is where you should feel right at home.
