Apprenticeship
We have a very specific apprenticeship and training program that all new people who want to be involved must go through. This is an excellent roleplaying vehicle, as well as a good way to learn our customs and traditions.
This training will not be for everyone. It is designed to be fun, and yet be a challenge that separates those just casually interested from those who really wish to work at it. This also gives you a chance to see how things work before you really get deep into it.
When we are satisfied with the background you present us with, and feel that you have the potential to make a good contribution to our family, you'll be accepted for training. You'll be apprenticed to a trainer in the Caste appropriate to your profession.
Apprenticeship in the Dhe'nar is a bit different than anywhere else. It is most akin to the training described in the section on the Warlock caste. You are taken on as a "slave" without name or rank, and your actions will be taken as the actions of your trainer. Anything you do reflects on them. It is most likely that you'll be asked to kneel in their presence, and in the presence of other high-ranking Dhe'nar. It is also likely that your trainer will ask small chores of you (like selling the stones garnered from their last hunt) or set tasks to be done (like bringing back the skin of a certain creature).
Does this mean that your trainer can ask you to do things you don't approve of? No. Our trainers have been very carefully selected as trustworthy people who have a sense of the appropriate. You'll never be asked to do anything you don't approve of, or that you find offensive. This is supposed to be fun, and you can't have fun if you're constantly worried about what you'll be asked to do.
Most trainers will have an out-of-character talk with you about what boundaries should be set, so that you're both comfortable with the situation. You should also feel free to always go to the person training you with any concerns, in-character or out. If something happens that you're not comfortable with, tell them. While the characters they play are harsh, every one of the trainers is played by a very nice person who wants to help you.
However, a measure of servitude will be required. The reason for this is that, if you cannot be expected to serve your future family without hesitation, what could we possibly expect you to give of your own volition when accepted as family? It is a measure of loyalty and devotion, and has so far saved us a good deal of trouble by weeding out potential troublemakers before they could do damage.
This service must last a minimum of three months. If you're taken on before you reach your twentieth training (we take apprentices as young as ten to fifteen trainings), you also have to title before you can be passed out of the training. Towards the end, you'll spend time with a trainer from each of the other Castes to learn a bit about them.
Each trainer has a different style of training, and you should discuss it with the person you're to be assigned to until you're comfortable with the situation, and until you fully understand what it all means. Once all that is out of the way, you'll be inducted into our ranks of apprentices, and the fun will begin.
