Castes & Society

Through their millennia long association with the Dhe'nar, the Khanshael have developed a society that, in many ways, is similar in structure to that of the Dhe'nar. The dwarves have also developed a caste structure, although their castes are much less stratified than the Dhe'nari castes, and it is not unknown for a dwarf to change castes in his long lifetime, or sometimes maintain acceptance by multiple castes. Female Khanshael have as much opportunity in any caste as the males.

The Khanshael are not born to a caste, they are given the choice, though their elders often guide them, as the elders can usually tell which caste best suits them. It is not uncommon to have brothers, sisters, and even husbands and wives of different castes

However, dwarves being dwarves, with very different personalities than most elves, there are many differences between the two societies. Also, thanks to the Khanshael elevation above slave stature among Dhe'nar society, their society has been allowed to evolve beyond a simple slave race. They have become a powerful society, intrinsically meshed with the Dhe'nar. Their dependence on one another has come to such a point that neither could exist without the other, much to each race's chagrin.
