The Efficacy and Effectiveness of Psychological Treatments 2013 — There is extensive evidence demonstrating that psychotherapy can be an efficacious and effective health care service for a wide range of commonly experienced mental health and health conditions. This conclusion applies across the lifespan and is based on many hundreds of studies, including both randomized controlled trials and studies examining the impact of evidence-based psychological treatments delivered in typical clinical settings.

THE ROLE OF THE PSYCHOLOGIST WORKING WITH ADULTS WITH AN INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY 2003 — Currently, the role of the psychologist has moved towards a systemic and collaborative model. This means that the psychologist engages in a collaborative process with the people in the individual's bio-psycho-social system i.e. the person with the intellectual disability, the teachers, the instructors, the support staff in the residential services and the day services, the family and community along with other professionals involved with the service user. The collaborative and team model is a more effective way of working within services for adults with intellectual disabilities.

Universal Declaration of Ethical Principles for Psychologists 2008 The objectives of the Universal Declaration are to provide a moral framework and generic set of ethical principles for psychology organizations worldwide: (a) to evaluate the ethical and moral relevance of their codes of ethics; (b) to use as a template to guide the development or evolution of their codes of ethics; (c) to encourage global thinking about ethics, while also encouraging action that is sensitive and responsive to local needs and values; and (d) to speak with a collective voice on matters of ethical concern.
