Promoting training and employment opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities: International experience -2011 — Measures to open employment opportunities for persons with disabilities in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and ILO Convention No. 159 can build on extensive experience in recent decades in developing new approaches to training and employment. This working paper highlights, among other points, good practice in supporting people with intellectual disabilities in integrated employment settings. Evidence clearly points to better outcomes for employees with intellectual disabilities when they work in integrated settings, with appropriate supports.

The Glass Ceiling and Persons With Disabilities -David Braddock, Lynn Bachelder -1994 — This report was funded by the Glass Ceiling Commission, U.S. Department of Labor. The Glass Ceiling Commission was established by the Civil Rights Act of 1991, and is chaired by the Secretary of Labor. The Glass Ceiling Commission was charged to: 1) build public awareness of the specific behaviors, practices, and attitudes that either cause or prevent advancement by women, minorities, and persons with disabilities to leadership and management positions; 2)develop concrete policy recommendations for improving and expanding employment opportunities for women and minorities, including persons with disabilities; and, 3) provide leadership in developing and communicating the Commission’s equal employment opportunity agenda.
