Three Shires
We now need four more players for the annual match against Three Shires. It is always a good day, 9 holes greensomes in the morning and 18 hole match play in the afternoon. I played Farringdon last year with the 3 Shires and it’s a good course
which you will enjoy. If interested, contact us through the email address below.
Autumn Meeting
The end of the season approaches. Let’s hope that the good weather continues into the Autumn. Our next competition will be played at the Bigbury Golf Club. Coffee on arrival from 8.30, a 9 hole competition for the Macklin CX Trophy will start at 09.00.
The final of the Kelly Cup will also be played in the morning. Following a sandwich lunch, an 18 hole stableford competition for the Bellair Cup will be played. This will be followed by prize giving, and a two course meal. The overall cost is a very reasonable £43.00.
Please email dccgolfsoc@gmail.com if you would like to play.
Important Announcement
I am very sad to report that we have decided that due to declining numbers, Bigbury will be the final event for the Society. It is a lot of work and effort to put on these events and numbers have continued to reduce to the point where it is not worth continuing. Many of us are retiring or nearing retirement and the availability of Opens, reciprocal arrangements with other Clubs, internet deals etc mean that the Society has become less competitive. For those of you that are interested and want to keep in touch, Mike, Neville and I will retain a database and we will seek to get together periodically but not in such a formalised way as through a Society.
The Society has run for many years and it would be good to ‘end with a bang’ so I hope as many of you as possible will come to Bigbury and enjoy a last day with friends and colleagues of many years standing. It’s a great course and we can enjoy and reminisce about some of the previous year’s great events.
Of course, if someone ‘out there’ thinks you can keep the Society going, you are of course welcome to try and we will support you of course. Contact Either Mike, Nev or myself to discuss.
Best wishes to you all and I hope to see lots of you at Bigbury
