DCCGS AGM
Wednesday 26th July 2006
(Held at Crediton Golf Club after the Winter Meeting)
Present ; the majority of those who played during the day
The venues for 2007 were discussed and the following was agreed ;
The financial position of the society presently stands at £86 - this includes paying over the £150 pre-paid deposit to St Mellion Golf Club for the event to be held there in March next year.
MD pointed out that DCCGS no longer receives any subsidy from either Unison or Coaver Club – this means the £35 grant formerly received from each body is now lost, so annual income is £70 down.
Our incoming Society Captain with effect from 1st July is John Baker - he has chosen Bob Blackmore to be his vice-captain.
Our new vice-captain proposed, and Charles Wray seconded a proposal to make the individual stableford competitions we hold off full handicap and not 7/8 any more. This was voted on and the majority of members were in favour , so at our next and future meetings this will be applied.
Those involved were reminded that the longstop date for completion of Kelly Cup 2nd round matches (quarter final) is 30th August. Bob Jones raised the matter of 28 handicappers without official club handicaps entering the KO when in fact they were often appreciably better than that. MD checked and verified that all 17 entrants in the 2006 event had proper club handicaps.
MD asked why more members don’t enter the Kelly Cup KO event each year – Charles Wray commented that in his experience his opponents made precious little effort in helping to arrange mutually convenient dates. Dave Gibbs said that in his case he was unaware of such a competition – MD pointed out that all the competitions we play for are explained within the website under the heading ‘ Competition Formats’.
Bob Jones also mentioned that because of the way the society days are organised, with the lower handicappers going out early, there was less scope for members with higher handicaps to get to play with lower handicappers – MD will endeavour to address this issue at future meetings.
MD was given a fourball voucher by Crown Golf, the present owners of St Mellion, as a thank you for booking a society day with them. An auction for this voucher was held to raise society funds, and £75 was so raised.
