DCCGS
AGM
Monday 3rd July 2000 in Coaver Club
Present ; Ken Elliott, Steve Johnstone, Bob Jones, Neville Taylor, Dave Callaby, Mark Burrows, Lester Willmington, Mike Downing
Apologies were received from Dave Cowler
It was proposed by Neville and agreed by the meeting to abolish the annual subscription of £5, and instead apply a £2 levy to everyone playing in each of the Society’s 3 meetings. Assuming an average of 30 players per meeting, this would yield £180 over each year – annual subs has yielded between £150-200 for each of the last 5 years. It will cut down on admin, and those who play pay.
The society’s bank balance stood at £129 on June 30th, including a
£90 deposit lodged with St. Mellion for the meeting to be held there next March.
Next year’s fixtures are to be held at St.Mellion in March, Highbullen Hotel in June and the Manor House Hotel in October. The South Coast Salver match will be at Trethorne in May, and the 3 Shires will be at Long Sutton in September
The secretary will assess the viability of holding a future meeting at Ashbury (near Okehampton).
It has been suggested that instead of having a meal between rounds as has traditionally happened, players will eat after completion of their afternoon round, perhaps altogether. About half an hour will be allowed between rounds during which people can ‘grab a sandwich’ if they so desire. This will be tried experimentally at Pickeridge on 6th October.
Lester Willmington has taken over as Captain in succession to Thom Ritchie from 1st July. He is yet to nominate his vice-captain.
It was agreed to continue to issue newsletters with as much notice as practical in order to give people maximum forward planning.
Assuming the competition resumes next year, DCCGS will again enter one or more teams in the Gardner Merchant competition depending on demand.
A special word of thanks to Neville Taylor for his wonderfully creative website, which has improved the dissemination of information to ‘connected’ members enormously, as well as adding a much-needed touch of professionalism to communication.
