(Held at Trethorne Golf Club after the Spring Meeting)
Present - those who played during the day.
The venues/dates for 2012 were mentioned and the following was suggested ;
The financial position of the society presently stands at about £132 after covering the Trethorne costs.
MD had to fund the golf society to the tune of £160 over the 2010/11 winter ; £50 deposits were paid to Dartmouth, Trethorne, Bridport and Stover golf clubs for 2011 events, while the 3 engraved glasses for the 3 regular meetings and the cost of prizes for Dartmouth totalled another £100, so an overall outlay of £300, less £140 bank balance at the end of the 2010 season. With the low numbers attending the 2010 events (an average of only 21 players per meeting) funds are still rather sparse, hence the cash shortage. Anyone happy to prepay would be greatly assisting the society cash-flow.
Engraving costs are also quite a drain on society coffers – it is requested that if you win one of the society’s perpetual trophies that you get it engraved at your own cost – this will in consequence minimise overheads.
We now hold a seven year stock of Captains ties which were bought back in Feb 2007
With effect from 1st July our incoming Society Captain is Julian Partridge - Julian has asked Marlon Lockhart to be his vice-captain and Marlon has agreed.
At Dartmouth, for various reasons 10 people dropped out of the startsheet from the day it was sent out (23rd March) through to 30th March – this is less of an issue at the Spring meeting since both competitions are singles events, but is a significant problem in the Winter and Autumn meetings as both involve team events, either pairs or 3 balls. Any suggestions as to how we mitigate this problem other than by abolishing team events?
Those involved were reminded to complete their 1st round Kelly Cup KO matches by 30th June, and members were also reminded of the date and venue of this year’s Autumn meeting , which is at Stover golf club on 6th October.
You will have a new golf society secretary w.e.f. 1st January 2012 – John Barnard will be taking over the mantle from Mike Downing who is in his 25th and last year as secretary.
