Joseph Hosmer

Joseph Hosmer was the younger brother of our ancestor, Lucy Hosmer Wood. He was well known in Massachusetts in his time as a patriot and as a cabinet maker. Through stories about Joseph Hosmer, we can learn about our own ancestors, who are mentioned in the several memorials and stories that mention him.

There is strong evidence that our own ancestor, Silas Wood, the son of Lucy Hosmer Wood and Joseph Hosmer's nephew, worked in Hosmer's shop in the early 1780's. According to Jonathan Fairbanks, curator of the Concord Museum, Silas Wood's signature appears on one of Hosmer's cabinets.

Hosmer, however, is by far best known for his role in the times leading up to the American Revolution, and on the morning of the Battle of Concord.
