This is the gravestone of Mary Hayward Fairbanks Whitcomb, the mother of Mary Fairbanks Wilder and mother in law of Colonel Oliver Wilder. After the death of Jonathan Fairbanks in an Indian raid in 1697, Mary Hayward Fairbanks married David Whetcomb (sic), operated a tavern in the village of Bolton, Massachusetts, adjacent to Lancaster.
