Howard Edelman passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in Lake Forest, IL. Howard was born in Chicago on January 5, 1948, to the late Sylvia and Morris Edelman.
Howard is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife, Joan, of 55 years, daughter of the late Estelle and Bernard Shipin and by his loving children, Lauren (Simon) Leibovich and Lindsey (Chris) Vischer and his grandchildren Alexis, Lucas and Zachary. Howard was predeceased by his sister Marci Weinshenker and is survived by her husband Ed and by his brother Larry (Tammy) Edelman, as well as other extended family and friends.
Devotion to his family was Howard’s guiding light. He was an anchor, supporting Joan in raising their children and in every aspect of their marriage. He was deeply involved in all areas of his children’s and grandchildren’s lives, sharing his wisdom, supporting their interests and rooting them on in countless sporting events.
Growing up, Howard was a star athlete who led his school and fraternity teams to championships as the point guard, shortstop and quarterback. Later, he was accomplished in his distinguished career over five decades, beginning with Centre Properties and rising to EVP with Heitman.
Howard touched the lives of many with a gregarious, outgoing nature. He was kind, thoughtful and was known for always being able to light up a room with his infectious smile and sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and for his profound impact on the lives of everyone that knew him.
