Lewis Fredrick Klein February 6, 1948 - August 2, 2018 San Diego Lew Klein, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, friend, and neighbor, died in San Diego at the age of 70 from complications of multiple myeloma. Lew was born and raised in Chicago and, after almost four decades away, still cherished his hometown. His professional career was spent as a financial adviser for UBS and, before that, Paine Webber and M.L. Stern though Lew's true passion was for people in general and the arts in particular. He served on the Boards of Evoke Dance Theatre, Sledgehammer Theatre, and the National Conflict Resolution Center. He was a member of the City of San Diego Arts and Culture Commission and routinely made financial contributions to dozens of non-profit organizations. Lew was blessed -- and blessed those around him with curiosity, humor, warmth, and the ability to put people at ease. He had the gift of bringing people together and creating community. He adored architecture and modern design, theatre, movies, robust conversation, and a nice pair of eyeglasses. He loved to laugh, pun, tell stories, and until he switched predominantly to wine, couldn't resist an icy martini. Lew leaves his wife Marnie, daughter Sarah, granddaughter Rose, brother Richard, niece Adina, sister-in-law Marda, and a large, loyal, and occasionally rambunctious group of friends, all of whom are bereft at his passing and grateful for the many ways he enriched their lives. Contributions may be made in Lew's name to the Salk Institute, the National Conflict Resolution Center, the Congregation Beth Israel, or the Institute for Myeloma and Bone Cancer Research.Â
