You read well, it is written in Greek Μετς, but its name comes from an old country house built on the edge of the old river Ilissos by Johann Karl Fuchs, brewer of Bavarian origin and founder of the brewery Fix who had named his house Metz, in honor of a battle that took place in this city during the Franco-Prussian war of 1870.
Metz is a beautiful area, very quiet, with nice villas, it is located behind the old Olympic stadium of Athens (not far from Syntagma). There, you can also find the biggest cemetery of Athens and a small uncovered part of the Ilissos River.
