THIVA Thiva (Thebes) is a small city not far from Athens, about 100 kilometers on the east. The city as prestigious past, Thiva was the center of the Mycenaean world, but today the sign of this past are few, you can visit the Archaeological Museum whose is located in the center city, at the foot of the tower of the Temple of Apollo, (the original tower was approximately 46 meters but now it is more like a ten meters stuff). This tower was the fortress which protected the entrance of the city. The museum collects objects unearthed on all sites in the region and in the various Mycenaean palaces. Warning! the museum is currently closed for renovations, as a precaution call the Greek Tourist Office before you go to Thebes, tel/210 3310392, 210 3310716. The city itself does not present a lot of interest, we suggest a visit to Thiva only for the fanatic of archeology who wants to see the museum. If you look for a good place to eat in Thiva, you should definitely go to the taverna 'I STOA', certainly the best of the city. This restaurant is located on the main square of Thiva, a little bit hidden in a indoor path. There are alway peoples in Stoa, the place is well-known for his excellent and traditional Greek kitchen.

Two bridges connect Chalkida to the continent. The old drawbridge in iron, which opens every evening to let boats pass from one side to the other, and the high modern bridge, built in 1990, in concrete, 700m long.

A attraction of Chalkida is the phenomenon of the tides of the sea Evripos. The current changes direction every six hours from north to south and from south to north.
