THE METRO OF ATHENS. The metro of Athens is clean and beautiful, the only problem is that the lines are too few and metros are long to come, especially on the line of Piraeus, a real calamity this line, metros only every 20-30 minutes, wagons full. Finally, taking the Metro in Athens is an exercise Zen to test your patience.
RENT A CAR FROM ATHENS. The easiest way is to rent a car in Athens is to rent it at the airport, most major rental companies are represented there. For my part, I opted for Hertz and for a mid-size car, it was about 250 euros per week if I remember correctly, two weeks should coast 450 euros.

A small boat for 6 people costs about 300 euros per day. You will need to let a deposit of 1000 euros. The boat rental usually starts on Saturday.
Reservations must be made months in advance for summer.
From Piraeus for a weekend you can go to Aegina, Gia, Poro and Hydra.
THE GREEK FERRIES Firstly I recommend for long trips (like Italy or Greece-Athens-Crete) to travel at night, like this you avoid a night in a hotel and you can enjoy your day. Except if you take a cab you will have to sit in a chair or sleep on the floor. Many people chose the second option, in summer you can sleep on the deck, take a sleeping bag. In winter you can sleep inside, in the corridors, nobody will tell you anything, except on the new ferry Aneke Line that links Crete to Athens.Greece counts nine compagnies of ferries:
-Aegean Speed Lines
-ANEK Lines
-Blue Star Ferries
-Hellenic Seaways
-Maritime Company of Lesvos
-Minoan Lines
-Sea Jets
-Superfast Ferries
-Ventouris Ferries
CRUISES DEPARTURE FROM ATHENS
-Princess Cruise Line has two ships that depart from Athens: The Pacific Princess and Ocean Princess. Both ferries traveling from Athens to Rome, the first in July and August, the second in September.
-Silversea Cruises offers cruises between Italy, Greece and Turkey. The fleet sailed from June to August
-Seabourn Odyssey, which carries 450 passengers, stops at Mylos, Chios, Rhodes, Patmos, and Turkey.
GO TO TIRANA FROM ATHENS BY BUS (ALBANIA).
There are daily departures from Athens to the capital of Albania, the bus leave from the square of Metaxourgio, in the center of Athens (near Omonia, stop at the metro station Metaxourgeio).
Allow a bit more than 30 euros and 13 hours of bus.
The trip usually takes place at night (leaving around 20 o'clock from Athens, you arrive in the morning in Tirana). You will pass by Patra and Ioannina.
ATHENS-ISTANBUL BY TRAIN. Athens-Istanbul by train, that is an idea that sounds like a adventure. You will need to be patient because 22 hours of train is a long process, especially when it is not possible to find a seat, as it is often the case between Athens and Thessaloníki. After Thessaloníki the ride is more comfortable, almost everyone got off the train, you can admire the beautiful scenery of northern Greece. The border crossing is a bit long, you will need to wait two hours in the middle of nowhere, and then to change train for a good old train until Istanbul.
GO TO GREECE BY PLANE. Airport Athens Eleftherios Venizelos host aircraft scheduled and non-scheduled (especially during the summer months), as well as charter flights (charters). A Flight from Paris to Athens is approximately 75/100 euros for 3 hours flight. You will probably reach Greece by the airport of Athens, even if with Ryan air you can find now interesting flight to Thessaloníki, Corfou or Volos.
Most visitors pass through Athens, stay a day or two to visit the Acropolis and will then take a ferry to the islands.
In the summer there are many flights to the Greek islands, so it is not always necessary to pass by Athens, you will save time and maybe even money, the ferries are not especially cheap.
If you decide to visit Athens or go to Piraeus to catch a ferry, you will find at your arrival at the airport; taxis, a bus service that runs to the center (1 hour, 4 euros), and even a metro (30 minutes, 8 euros).
The metro goes directly to Monastiraki station, from there take the green line for Piraeus.
