FREE GREEK LESSONS IN ATHENS.
You've just arrived in Athens and for one reason or another you have to stay a while, then you decide to learn Greek, at least the basics, to handle the everyday life.
Problem you do not have money to take lesson and you are not able to learn by yourself with a book. Well, be aware that there are at least two places where you can take free lessons of Greek:
'Nosotros' (Themisstokleous odos) and 'Steki' (Tsamadou odos), these two associations mid-bar mid-cultural center are located in the neighborhood of Exarchia.
WORK IN GREECE.
Working in Greece for a European foreigner is possible, but you need to know a few words of Greek, normal ... You can teach English for example at home, or in a private school.
You can also work in restaurants, especially during the season, in the most touristic spot it is not even needed to speak Greek, restaurant will hire you especially because you speak English or another language like French or Deutsch (5.00 euros per hour).

You can also find a hotspot to the National Research Foundation in the area, open from 09:00 am to 19:00.

-At the University of Athens, only for students and employees.

GREEK ALPHABET.
This is the first thing that you will challenge if you come to Greece, the alphabet. Even if you will find many letters of the Latin alphabet in the Greek alphabet we don't pronounce them in the same way.
But if you work a little bit, it's sure that in less than two weeks you will be able to read.
I am sure that you already know a few letters, most famous are:
Alpha (A), Gamma (Γ), Iota (I), Omega (Ω), and then of course Pi (Π).
The pronunciation is difficult for some letters, some sounds do not exist in English, as Gamma, a mixture of L and R, its difficult to master for those who have never known how to roll the R in Spanish.
SOME PRACTICAL INFORMATION FOR A STAY IN GREECE.
-The banks and post offices are open Monday to Friday and close at 2 o clock.
-To take a bus, you need to buy ticket in advance in a kiosk.
-Debit cards are not accepted everywhere, especially outside Athens, think about having cash on you.
-Shops are generally closed between 15 h and 17h, siesta time is sacred, do not dare to put loud music in the afternoon, or you will have some small problems.
-The phone country code for Greece is 00 30, the emergency phone number is 166.
VISIT GREECE. Greece is a small country with an amazing diversity, you will definitely do not see everything in one trip. For a first visit, exploring Athens and its many attractions is a must to do, Athens is central anyway and will be a very good base for exploring the country.
