Get Up And Leave

Rev. James Smith, predecessor of Charles Spurgeon at New Park Street Chapel in London (1841–1850), from his devotional, The Believer’s Daily Remembrancer, on Micah 2:10 (ESV) “Arise and go, for this is no place to rest, because of uncleanness that destroys with a grievous destruction.”

(HCSB) "Get up and leave, for this is not your place of rest, because defilement brings destruction..."

There is no permanent rest for the believer on earth; here briers and thorns will be with him; and a voice is daily sounding in his ears, “Arise and go.” Here you are not to loll at ease, or to idle on your journey; here you are not to expect to find satisfaction, for it is an enemy’s land, and you are only passing through it to your heavenly home.

Luke 15:17a-18

When he came to his senses, he said "I will set out and go back to my father..."

John Gill on 2 Peter 2:22 “…the sow that was washed (returns) to her wallowing in the mire…”

A mere professor, like a sow, may return to and enjoy wallowing in the mire of sin that is part of this world. The child of God may fall into terrible sin but he will not be happy, nor will he remain in the habitual practice of sin.
