The Christian Warfare: An Exposition of Ephesians 6:10-13
I am certain that one of the main causes of the ill state of the Church today is the fact that the devil is being forgotten. All is attributed to us; we have all become so psychological in our attitude and thinking. We are ignorant of this great objective fact, the being, the existence of the devil, the adversary, the accuser, and his “fiery darts.”

(Some evangelical Christians take the view) that spiritual gifts and similar manifestations – miracles and speaking in “tongues” – came to an end in the apostolic era and so demon possession came to an end at the same time. This seems to me not only dangerous, but to be completely unscriptural. They have no warrant for saying that baptism with the Spirit, or the giving of spiritual gifts, ended with the apostolic era. In the same way, there is no scriptural evidence for saying that the manifestations of demon activity – the activity of evil spirits – ended at that time.
The moment you begin to say that, then the question I would ask you is – “How much of the New Testament do you believe? How much do you believe is relevant to us today?” When Paul says, “We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers.”(Ephesians 6:12), was this only for Christians of the first century? Has it nothing to say to us?
Still more important and serious is the fact that, in my experience, what appears to me to be the results of demonic activity is a very, very common cause of people’s coming to see the minister.
p. 39 God can work miracles today as he has done in the past ages. Perhaps we should expect him to do so as the days are darkening and the forces of evil seem to be emerging in an unusually aggressive and potent manner.

Those who reject the possibility of demon-possession today say…God had decided at the end of the apostolic era that He would not interfere any more in a miraculous manner, the devil also very kindly and very politely said, ‘Well, I will not act either.’ These men have worked themselves into a theoretical and academical theological position in which God is not allowed to act, and the demons are not allowed to act; there is no spiritual activity.

We are not only confronted by materialism, worldliness, indifference, hardness, and callousness — but we are also hearing more and more . . . about certain manifestations of the powers of evil and the reality of evil spirits. It is not merely sin that is constituting a problem in this country today. There is also a recrudescence of black magic and devil worship and the powers of darkness as well as drug taking and some of the things it leads to. This is why I believe we are in urgent need of some manifestation, some demonstration, of the power of the Holy Spirit.

Lloyd-Jones discusses the work and person of the Spirit, and the meaning of being “filled with the Spirit”
The question as to whether a Christian can be demon possessed starts at about 27 minutes.
Lloyd-Jones “Darkness and Light” on Ephesians 4:30
The Spirit never abandons the child of God; the seal is a seal, and a seal is no seal which can be broken at any moment and then put back again and then broken again. You do not go in and out of salvation; you are not saved today and lost tomorrow and then saved again. That is not biblical teaching. A seal is a seal, it is God’s seal, and no man can break it. So that when I say the Spirit withdraws Himself, I do not mean He goes out of you; He still stays there, but the gracious manifestations are withdrawn.
If you grieve the Spirit and He withdraws His gracious influences, it means that He leaves you to the supremacy of the flesh; that is to say, you will be left with all the power of the flesh within you, and the devil making use of it to attack you. He will assault you, he will insinuate vile, foul, ugly thoughts and desires into your mind and heart.
So if you are being subjected to most terrible temptations, examine yourself; it may be that you are being delivered over to Satan, to correct you and to bring you to your senses, and to lead you not to grieve the Spirit, the Holy Spirit of God.
