Take Off The Grave Clothes

John 11:44b

Jesus said to them, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go."

F.B. Meyer Our Daily Walk

In many cases those who have received life from Christ are still bound about with grave-clothes. Old habits and evil associations cling to them and impede their progress, and He bids us "Loose him and let him go." He asks for our co-operation in the emancipation of those who have been held fast in the power of the Evil One.

The life in fellowship with Christ has an extraordinary power in setting free lives which are bound in fetters of iron. Above all, we can point the fettered soul to Christ our Lord.

David Guzik

Lazarus was not resurrected, but resuscitated. He arose bound in grave-clothes, for he would need them again; Jesus left His grave-clothes behind in His tomb, never again having need of them.

Jesus did not miraculously whisk the grave-clothes off of Lazarus, but He asked attendants to do so. He did what only God could do, and looked for men’s cooperation for the completion of Lazarus’ deliverance.

John MacArthur "Untie him and let him go."

Men rolled the stone away and men unwrapped the grave clothes. You see, men can do that. Only God can raise the dead. And you know something? That's how the Lord always operates. He uses us, doesn't He? He does what He does but we do what we can do. He's the only one that can give life but I'll tell you something, there's no greater joy in the world than going around rolling around gravestones and taking off grave clothes. That's what ministry is all about, isn't it? There's a part that we play in what He does. What an honor not even given to angels. They don't even get to roll away gravestones and take off grave clothes, that's for us.
