Overview:
The purpose of homework is to help reinforce what was taught in class and to gain confidence by practicing necessary skill sets. All homework in all SGHS classes will be for these purposes. It is the belief of the staff at SGHS that the key to academic success is to actively participate in class, do your homework and take responsibility for your learning. It is for these reasons that we have formulated the following late work policy.
Key points:
Late work is any work that is turned in after the point in the period in which the teacher has stated it is due.
Long-range assignment deadlines do not apply to this policy. Long-range is defined as anything in which the students are given more than five school days to complete and in which the total points exceed that of a routine homework assignment. It is the expectation of the students to have the assignment complete by the date it is due. For the purposes of this policy, no late work will be accepted on long-range assignments.
One week is considered five consecutive school days.
Tiers do not constitute grade levels, but rather difficulty and sequencing of the coursework.
It is the expectation of the student to turn in the late work in an appropriate time frame and without prompting by the teacher. Failure of the teacher to ask for an assignment after the due date does not constitute legitimate reason for an assignment not being turned in.
Tier 1 (Entry level course work):
First semester: Students may turn in assignments up to one week late with a 20% reduction; two weeks late with a 30% reduction. No assignment will be accepted for a grade two weeks after the assignment was due.
Second Semester: Students may turn in assignments up to one week late with a 30% reduction; two weeks late with a 35% reduction. No assignment will be accepted for a grade two weeks after the assignment was due.
