Fundamentals of Art 1.00 Credit 2 SEMESTERS

PRE-REQUISITES: None
MAJOR REQUIREMENTS OR PROJECTS: $25.00 fee per semester and a specific sketchbook. Completed classroom assignments, sketchbook drawings, vocabulary and exhibition.
DESCRIPTION: The exploration of various media while using a several forming and finishing techniques for both functional and aesthetic purposes. Emphasis will be placed on the development of problem solving, craftsmanship, application of aesthetics, elements and principles, the history, and criticism of works of art. If a student wishes to take other advanced studio art classes s/he must earn at least a 73% or a ‘C’ in this course, as it is a prerequisite for all other courses.
Ceramics 0.50 Credit 1 SEMESTER

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS OR PROJECTS: $25.00 fee. Completed classroom assignments and exhibition.
DESCRIPTION: This repeatable semester course has a prerequisite of a ‘C’ in Fundamentals of Art and will offer the exploration of clay through a variety of forming and finishing techniques for both functional and sculptural uses. Emphasis will be placed on the development of problem solving, craftsmanship and the application of the elements and principles of design. Students will also gain an understanding of the firing process, glazing techniques, aesthetics and critiquing.
Drawing & Painting 0.50 Credit Per Semester 1 or 2 SEMESTERS

DESCRIPTION: This repeatable course has a prerequisite of a 'C' in Fundamentals of Art and will allow students to explore the drawing, painting and printmaking techniques of two-dimensional art. Emphasis will be placed on the development of problem solving, craftsmanship and the application of the elements and principles of design. Students will also gain an understanding of aesthetics and critiquing.
Studio Art 0.50 Credit 1 SEMESTER

PRE-REQUISITES: Earned at least a C or better in two semesters of advanced art classes.
MAJOR REQUIREMENTS OR PROJECTS: $25.00 fee per semester. Completed classroom assignments and exhibition.
DESCRIPTION: This repeatable semester course may only be taken a student’s senior year and will allow students to explore the elements and principles of design as used in two and three-dimensional design. Areas of study may include: drawing, painting, graphics, silk-screen, clay, sculpture etc. Emphasis will be placed on the development of problem solving, craftsmanship and the application of the elements and principles of design. Students will also gain an understanding of aesthetics and critiquing.
