DESCRIPTION: French I introduces the beginning French student to oral and written language, as well as exposing the student to the culture of Francophone peoples. Vocabulary development, grammar structure, and Francophone cultures are taught through the use of textbook, authentic resources from the internet, and classroom conversations and projects. This is a weighted course that will require comprehensive finals and completion of a course project.
French II 1.00 Credit 2 SEMESTERS

PREREQUISITES: Recommend C- average or higher from previous level.
DESCRIPTION: French II continues the development of oral and written communication through the use of textbook, authentic resources from the internet, and classroom conversation and presentations. The students read short selections in French and continue their study of the French culture. The emphasis in the second French course is on grammar through guided and independent practice. This is a weighted course that will require comprehensive finals and completion of a course project.
French III 1.00 Credit 2 SEMESTERS

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS OR PROJECTS: Electronic portfolio of former French colony in Africa, Read Le Petit Prince by Antoine De St Exupery.
DESCRIPTION: French III develops the reading, writing, listening and speaking abilities of the student through French literature, grammar study, audio and video of native speakers and films. Students speak in French for extended periods of time. This is a weighted course that will require comprehensive finals and completion of a course project. MAJOR REQUIREMENTS OR PROJECTS: HISTORICAL STUDY, EXPLICATION DE TEXTE OF NOVEL OR PLAY
DESCRIPTION: French IV further develops the reading, writing, and speaking abilities of the student through contemporary French literature combined with several classic selections. This class develops an appreciation of French literature. Students develop better writing skills in French through frequent practice. They also speak often in French and occasionally see French films. This is a weighted course that will require comprehensive finals and completion of a course project or research paper. MAJOR REQUIREMENTS OR PROJECTS: Presentations on a theme, read French novels, short written essays, and viewing & analysis of French films.
DESCRIPTION: French V seeks to deepen the capabilities of the student and move them from a low intermediate to a more advanced level of communication. Students will read a variety of French authors, learn how to analyze literature, and participate in socio-cultural and historic studies of francophone areas.
