DESCRIPTION: German I introduces the beginning student to the oral and written language, as well as the culture and history of German-speaking countries. This course emphasizes oral proficiency and basic grammatical concepts and sentence structures, through the usage of textbook and authentic resources, such as videos and authentic television shows. The student is encouraged to actively participate in discussions centered on selected topics, such as everyday life, customs and traditions. This is a weighted course that will require comprehensive finals and completion of a course project or research paper.
German II 1.00 Credit 2 SEMESTERS

PREREQUISITES: Recommend C- average or higher from German I.
MAJOR REQUIREMENTS OR PROJECTS: Research project.
DESCRIPTION: German II is a continuation and completion of major grammatical and syntactic concepts. Emphasis is placed on active oral participation and effective use of limited vocabulary. In addition, development in reading and comprehension skills are emphasized through the usage of textbook and authentic resources, such as videos. The student is encouraged to actively participate in discussions centered on selected topics, such as traveling, food, the school systems and transportation modes. This is a weighted course that will require comprehensive finals and completion of a course project.
German III 1.00 Credit 2 SEMESTERS

PREREQUISITES: Recommend C- average or higher from German II.
MAJOR REQUIREMENTS OR PROJECTS: Short compositions in German and a research project.
DESCRIPTION: Advanced German focuses on advanced grammar, reading and writing skills. Intensive study of cultural, historical, and geographical topics are emphasized. Special attention is given to the development of oral proficiency. The student is expected to actively participate in discussions centered on selected topics, such as everyday life, customs and traditions. German III, IV , and V are taught as a combined class, with the curriculum switching every other year. This is a weighted course that will require comprehensive finals and completion of a course project or research paper.
German IV 1.00 Credit 2 SEMESTERS

PREREQUISITES: Recommend C- average or higher from German III.
