DESCRIPTION: This course is student-led. Student-led learning is an education style that emphasizes self-directed education, creativity, and discovery, rather than rote memorization or traditional lecture-style education. Students are encouraged to incorporate their own interests into projects, within a set of broad guidelines. It means a departure from a traditional classroom set up, giving students more autonomy and encouraging them to take more ownership of their results. In effective student-led learning, students must be strongly motivated to working on their issues. In addition, they actively exchange opinions with classmates and deal with contradictions and conflicts from different ideas. While overcoming this, deep learning happens. In student-led learning, the teacher is a guide and facilitator, walking around to ask reflective questions or guide students to ask their own questions. They may also be providing demonstrations or pulling up information to support students in their explorations. In a student-led learning environment, teachers act as facilitators, guiding and supporting students as they navigate their learning journey. Students have the freedom to choose topics that interest them, set their own goals, and determine their own learning path.

DESCRIPTION: This course is encouraged for all students who have an interest in business. Students will acquire the knowledge of basic accounting principles while following the steps of the accounting cycle. Students will work through the accounting cycle for a service business organized as a sole proprietorship as well as a retail business organized as a partnership and a corporation.

DESCRIPTION: Accounting II is designed for students who wish to learn more about accounting procedures and principles. This course is a continuation of Accounting I. In Accounting II, students will work through the accounting cycle for a business organized as a corporation. Major topics covered include, departmental accounting, payroll procedures, cost accounting, and corporate accounting.

This course serves as a comprehensive introduction to the tools and techniques utilized in modern business environments, equipping students with the fundamental skills required to excel in their supervised business placements and beyond. Key components of the course include:
Microsoft Office Training: Students will develop a solid understanding of various Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Through interactive lessons and hands-on activities, students will learn essential skills for creating and formatting professional documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and emails. Emphasis will be placed on building proficiency in using Office tools efficiently and effectively to meet business needs.

Business SBE (Supervised Business Experience) 1.00 Credit 2 SEMESTERS

PREREQUISITES: Students must have completed a business course and have a computer-use agreement. Students must apply and be accepted in the SBE program. First year SBE students must be enrolled in Business Tech I. Second year students must be enrolled in Accounting I or II, Introduction to Applications, Entrepreneurship or Computer Applications.
MAJOR REQUIREMENTS OR PROJECTS: Must maintain a C average in all classes and meet the conditions of the student agreement pertaining to placement at a work station.
DESCRIPTION: The Supervised Business Experience (SBE) program is a work study program designed for junior and senior students who have chosen the business area as their occupational goal. The program provides the student with the opportunity to develop and apply knowledge, skills, and business competencies by combining supervised employment with in school vocational instruction, such training to qualify students for entry level jobs. Interested students must attend an informational meeting and apply for the program. Students who qualify and are eligible for participation in the program must complete an application in Grade 10 (for their junior year) or Grade 11 (for their senior year).

DESCRIPTION: This is an advanced multimedia production course with emphasis in the areas of Video Production, Photoshop and 3-D Animation. Students will work independently and in teams supporting Dragon’s Lair Productions (DLP) in the design, development and production of media related products and services. This is an extremely fast paced and hands-on work environment whereby successful time management and meeting production deadlines are key to success.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS OR PROJECTS: Students will be required to communicate with potential customers, design prototypes, and produce custom merchandise. Must pass safety test with 80% or better prior to using production equipment.
DESCRIPTION: This hands-on, project-driven course is designed to give students the opportunity to learn the basics of marketing by creating, producing, and selling impactful merchandise for our school, sports, clubs, and organizations. Throughout the course, students will learn mechanical skills by operating commonly used marketing production equipment and software while creating and producing marketing mediums. This process will teach students collaboration, teamwork, time management, problem-solving, critical thinking, organization/planning, and quality control. All of these skills can easily be applied to real-world situations. This course is suitable for students who are interested in learning about marketing, entrepreneurship, and business or students who want to build a sense of community and pride in our school.
Advanced Graphics Design Lab ____________________ 0.50 Credit ___________________________________________1 SEMESTER

PRE-REQUISITES: Candidates must have earned a B or better in two semesters of multimedia-related classes (Photoshop, Video Production and/or Media Production).
MAJOR REQUIREMENTS OR PROJECTS: Students MUST be self-motivated and experienced with the software required to create advanced graphics projects with minimal guidance and/or supervision. Projects are intended for display board exhibitions and will be completed every two weeks unless otherwise directed by the instructor.
DESCRIPTION: This repeatable semester course affords students the opportunity to explore the elements and principles of two and three-dimensional (3D) graphic design. Advanced Graphic Design integrates design principles and software, typography, digital illustration, digital imaging, page layout, and prepress techniques with emphasis on design process from visualization to production.
