GOAL(s): The project goal was to learn about Egyptian Medicine during ancient times. The final product that I made was to have two notecards with information on them about what the Aloe Vera helped with, what it was, and other methods that could help with the problem. I did the same thing for Milk and Honey. I planned to use a lot of the internet, I wanted to try an Egyptologist because they would be a lot of help for that getting specifically into Ancient Egypt. I interviewed Jessica Churchill at Railyard Apothecary, she helped me figure out my final product and a few websites that I could use. I chose to go back in time to Egypt because I love Ancient Egypt, I also like Medicine. I thought that it was the perfect way to combine the two.
OUTCOME: The outcome was exactly what I wanted it to be. I made Milk and Honey, with a note explaining what it was, and how it helped with the problem. I got an Aloe Vera plant and did the same thing with that. I was the only one with a presentation instead of a tri-fold, I felt left out and like I wasn't getting the same amount of attention because of it. I'd like to think I met my goal. My goal was to learn about Egyptian Medicine and I know more about it now than I did before. I didn't know what I wanted to do for my final product. It was a constant hassle of thinking "Does this match my project?" I had an idea between making something about Mummies, trying to make pharmaceutical medicine, or going the herb route and making something simple. I had a huge problem trying to figure out who to interview. I couldn't interview someone from that time because they are all dead. Egyptologists seem to be extinct whenever I try to find them. I remembered Jessica and I thought she would be a great fit.
REFLECTION: I learned that religion was a very big thing back then. The ancient Egyptians had a lot of the same herbs that we have today which I wasn't expecting. I was excepting that I would need to do a ritual with a pig's heart and get its blood. Not being able to think of a final product sooner was a problem for me. If I have thought of something sooner I would have been able to make it better and expand it way more than what it was. Interviewing Jessica was something that helped a lot in the end. She helped me find some more resources and figure out my final product. As well as she was the first person that I interviewed and went back to talk about my project. I would try to have everything more on time, with the product and everything. Not having a tri-fold was a little intimidating, but it was fine. I think it was fine overall just the fact that it got boring after a little while.
