My STP project has changed throughout the whole project, I started with wanting to work with DCF. I got told that it's a monumental. I realized that when reading through all the information, DCF handled investigations very thoroughly. I later switched to a different part of DCF. Wanda helped me to figure the direction that I would be going in. She later told me about Kids-A-Part, giving Jesses number. Called Jesse didn't get an answer as well as emailed. I later went on to planned parenthood and All Breed Rescue. I was able to get a response from All Breed Rescue them after filling out their volunteer information. As well as getting a response from Planned parenthood.
With this shadow day I had to go out into the community. There was some times during the shadow day that It was a little challenging. Hearing the dogs back stories and doing a home readiness test. These tests are to test the dog that is wanted and a dog that is already owned, to see if the two can live with each other.
Service learning term is when we go out and help a community with a problem/issue that they've been happening. SBHS has a garden that people don't take care off and people steal the grapes from it. The only one that took care of it was a maintenance man who had plenty of other things to be doing. We decided to take over with repairing the broken beds, making new signs, getting a watering system going, new plants, and taking care of the grapes.
Extended learning opportunity, is a learning opportunity outside of Big Picture and the school. It usually consists of a job which is what mine is for. I work at Party City and have for a year now. I have been doing the trainings, giving people their balloons, and talking to customers for a year.
Big picture has helped me go out into the community way more than I ever thought I would. I enjoy talking to people and listening to people when I have an interest in their profession/field. I've learned that I tend to have a problem when it's something that I'm not interested in. I try to be responsible when it comes to people that I am working with, I want them to know that I am interested and wanting to gather information from them. I apologize when it's necessary, send thank you emails, try to communicate my true and honest feelings when it is needed. Sometimes I feel I share too much, when it isn't very necessary.
