Start with the enduring understanding, and describe what it means to be a self-directed learner.
Where have you used these skills?
Reflect on your completion of the power assessment (Gateway or Soph. Round Table).
How have you grown in this domain over time?
A self directed learner looks like someone who gets the instructions for the job and does it with out hesitation. Working on what they need to do to get the job done. Collaborating with others, doing new things with others and things that have already been done, to extend learning.
Gateway is an exhibition on showing that we have gotten certain proficiencies. I needed to talk about how I did these things and why I did them. I chose self direction and responsible and involved citizenship. This proves that I am a self directed learner because I passed gateway but also able to complete the tasks that were in gateway.
This interview is with a medical dermatologist. This interview was for my independent project about medicine. I talked with multiple people about medicine for this project, to get different perspectives. This interview with Seal Patricia, a Medical Dermatologist. I asked the same questions for both of them, changing and turning some of them around because of the different careers.
This was my first ever interview on a topic that I have never done before, it was a completely different topic to me. The taxidermist that I interviewed didn't give much to go off of at times so I had to try to get as much as I could out of him. I went off the answers that he had given me to ask more questions. My dad was there to help.
Studying abroad has a been a dream of mine for a very long time. I was very close to doing it until I had to make the decision to put my family in debt. There was a lot of people that I needed to go to when filling out the application process. I needed to go to my doctor, guidance counselor, my parents, my advisor/teacher, and my therapist/counselor. I had to be patient and wait for all of these people to fill out the information that I needed to continue with the process.
I believe I've grown in this domain quite a lot. I am able to do quite a bit with having some direction, than just going off and completing the task. I've gathered a lot of different people for informational interviews, with many different careers. I've done many different projects that don't relate to each other. There are a lot of topics that I did not know a lot about so I learned from the primary source and doing online research. I've done projects were I do know some about the topic or believe to think it's easy. I learn new information on what I have already gained. There are still many things that I can do to improve in self direction. I need to learn to give myself a break after working on work for so long.
