Big Picture South Burlington
Post-Secondary Plan Name: Lily McKitty
PURPOSE:
The overall goal of your high school years is to figure out how your learning preferences, personality traits, and favorite activities can point to your future purpose. Do you need to know what you want to be for the rest of your life?!? NO. You do need to figure out what you want to do next- as in after high school is done. People say these years fly by and they are right. There are many directions people take after high school: early college (12 gr), post secondary prep school year, college, trade school, military, gap year, work, the possibilities are endless. The goal of this series of activities and products is to help you make the most of your “free, appropriate, public education” while you can. As you hone in on what you want to do next, you can strategically plan a pathway through that door.
Requirements:
For your post secondary plan, you will identify one of these options as a primary goal by checking the box next to the option you have selected after graduation.
To complete your post-secondary plan (a graduation requirement) you will submit a plan that addresses each item on the bulleted list for the option you checked.
Each item should use the title from the bulleted list, followed by a statement and evidence of how you completed this item on the list.
Assemble all the parts, with this sheet as your cover, and submit it for graduation credit. This can be submitted as a paper document in a binder, or as a .PDF file, all assembled. .
Working will give me the opportunity to make some money to be able to go to school. I haven't given up on the fact of traveling, so while I am working I plan to do the WWOOF program and go on road trips. I don't plan to travel by car for more than 24 hours. For the WWOOF program, I would like to do one that is good for people travelling alone for the first time
I work in retail at PartyCity, I have been doing so for the last year now. I enjoy the work that I do and I like to meet the customers that come in. Retail is something that I don't see myself doing in the future, this is just a temporary job until I am able to go onto the path that I want. I don't exactly know what I want to do in the future 100%, I might go to get a PhD in archeology, specifically in Egyptology or join the military. I will probably know more in the near future but if I want to become a professor I will need to get my masters.
I don't plan to live independently, I will still live with my family. I believe that my family would be paying for the groceries in the house, but if I wanted anything like fast food I would be paying from my own expense. I would be paying for the more basic things like clothes, medicine, etc. When I start to make enough I will be paying for the phone bill, housing, insurance, etc.
I would still be living my family during this Gap year. When and if I leave for college, that is when I would be moving/leaving. My parents would most likely not have me pay a "fee" or rent to live with them. I still have my own room in their home. I am able to drive myself and have my own form of transportation. The travel between my house and work is a little steep, so I will try to find another job that is closer that pays about the same. I don't think that, that will happen because what I'm making is above minimum wage right now.
Getting burned out quickly
I haven't decided on how many days I plan to work, let alone how long I will be working for. I would like to try to work on the weekdays and have the weekends off. I really want money and to be able to feel comfortable while going to college but I don't want to lose all of my drive.
Not being able to Travel
The main goal is to travel and work. I don't know how many days off I am allowed for vacation (I haven't taken any yet.) Depending on the trip it would be about a week or a week and half.
Money
I possibly wont have enough money to do the things/goals that I have stated. I'd say I make enough at my job and would be able to be steady with knowing when it is too much. I know the base of everything, how much gas is (to fill my tank), having an idea of how much food is, etc.
