GOAL(s): Why did you choose this topic/product?
The goal of this project was to remake a pair of shoes that I've wanted for a while. Getting a shoe that I would be able to paint on as well as put brackets in the shoe so I could attach wheels. Using videos that people have created online would be the biggest source of information that I would use. Know the different kinds of paints that I should use on the shoes that I would be using and the kind of tool that I would need to cut the soles with. Heelys have been around since I was a kid, I've always wanted some but I never liked the way they looked. The Heelys always looked bulky, they never had a good design that I liked. I stumbled upon a video that was about how to make a pair of Heelys using a different shoe, as well as painting a different design on the shoe.
OUTCOME:
I wanted something that was my personal choice in style. I have a lot of monotone clothing so I thought that would be a good base design. I wanted to get the design idea out of the way so that I had plenty of time to paint everything and do the lining. I needed to have the Air Forces to start cutting and painting, I needed the Heelys to come in so I could start to cut out the bracket. I was nervous to cut the Air forces, If I messed up there was no way that I would be able to hide it or fix it. Sticking to a schedule and knowing what I needed to get done helped me to complete my final product. Not having most of the right materials for the job. The black side of the shoe still needs its lining because I was not able to get a white paint pen. Sometimes the Oscillating saw did not cut through the sole of the Air forces. Sometimes the saw cut way farther than it needed to so it cut through the sole of the shoe into the part where the foot goes. I realized that I didn't need to do anything for it because you weren't able to see it.
REFLECTION: What would you do differently in the future?
I learned that different fabrics need to be used with different paints, as well as bottom coats and top coats to make the paint on the product last longer. It's a very simple thing but learning how to use a tool, I don't use them in my projects because they don't require them. Knowing the fact that the Oscillating saw went through the bottom of my Air force shoe was a take-a-way, It was the one thing that I didn't exactly want to happen, as well as the ALL WHITE shoe getting dirty. Picking a simple but hard design (straight lines) was something that worked for me in the end. It helped not having a whole bunch of different colors, and shapes, and having to worry about drawing a character. It didn't work, because it did work, but in the end, it was just the thought of having to rip out the bottom of these $90 sneakers. I would have thought of all the materials that I needed to get when I started to paint so I could finish both of the shoes.
