GOAL(s):
The goal of my project was to have pinned and mounted a moth, more specifically a Luna Moth. My final product was supposed to be a Luna moth that was pinned and mounted in a frame. I chose this topic because I felt that it would have completed the taxidermy project that I did. I can't say I have ever really been super interested in bugs, but I have always loved butterflies and moths. I felt it was going to be fun and something that I don't usually do.
REFLECTION:
I learned that having a way to write things down and keep track of it is very helpful for planning. Moths are also super delicate, it was very easy to break them. The main month that I wanted to use was 1. smaller than I thought it was and 2. it completely broke. The bottom of the tail for the Luna moth broke off in the packaging or when people kept on touching the box that had all the moths in it. The interviews that I have I don't usually take a lot away from, but this one was completely different. Lynn taught me and told me so many different things that I didn't even know. The thing that was the hardest was probably the time zone difference between me and Lynn. Lynn lives in California, while I live in VT. So it was very interesting, to say the least, we needed to reschedule here and there but it was very fun to remember that there are other time zones! I would have gotten a few more months, as well as getting the main moth (Luna moth) in one piece to pin. I would have also tried to just buy a mounting frame instead of making one.

OUTCOME:
All of the basic information for the project got done first. The proposal, the calendar, rubric, notes, etc. I tried to contact someone immediately for a primary source. I thought that Bohart Museum was perfect. I tried to get in the items and materials that I would be using as soon as possible. When I finally gathered all the materials I started to work on the final product. I needed to get the moths into a container that would bring back moisture to them, so the wings could open easier. I wanted to make sure that nothing broke/tore on the moth's wings. I believe that I met my goal by keeping up with my calendar and by doing some things as soon as possible. I knew that Kevin would want to have a whole meeting about getting insects and such things so that took some time. Keeping my calendar up to date was just helpful for me to keep track of everything. I wanted to make the mounting frame by myself. In reality, I did not have enough time for that. By the time my materials came for pinning the moths, there was not enough time for making the mount.
Making a hydrating chamber
Hot water will be on the bottom so the steam can rise
The wet paper towels will be between each of the moths so they can get hydrated
