Defending Your Portfolio for Graduation
When: Typically early May
Where: BP Room or Library, Conference Room, etc
What: Well look how far you’ve come! That is the exact goal of portfolio defense. If you are a long-time Big Picture student graduating by demonstrating proficiency, or an Exceptional Senior Year student, we want to hear about how this experience shaped you. We also want to know how you shaped it. The goal of this round table exhibition is for proficiency-based candidates to share six highlighted pieces of evidence from each of the five domains of learning. For exceptional senior year students, we want to see three key pieces of evidence to demonstrate credit in English and Civics and any other graduation requirements you may have needed this year. Additionally, we will want to see your overall reflection on each domain and any or all of the Capstone Assessments you have done.
(see the attached rubrics and preparation checklists)
Who: Your round table guests will include your advisor, Kevin (BP program coordinator), your parent(s), a guidance counselor or teacher, and an administrator (Pat Burke, Lissa McDonald, or John Craig). You are welcome to invite anyone else you would like to have there.
Outcomes: Based on the evidence shared you will either get the green light to graduate in June, or you may have some conditions for graduation- work or components of your portfolio that need to be finished. If you were not close enough at this point, we would not be scheduling the defense, we would be having different meetings. Relax- you got this!
