AZTEK Personal Skills Workshop (0900-1100, 1100-1200)
The AZTEK (Arizona Technician’s Edge Kit) is a versatile personal tool that can be used in many rescue applications. This workshop will cover several basic skills using the AZTEK, including personal over-the-edge operation with both true and self belays. Students will have the opportunity to gain on-rope experience through multiple one-on-one rope stations.
An additional hour (1100-1200) will be available at the end of the session to practice AZTEK skills and to address individual student questions.
Topics:
· Rescue scene safety
· PPE
· Basic rescue knots
· Multiple uses of the AZTEK edge kit
· True and self belay techniques
Required personal equipment:
· Gloves
Recommended Equipment (Will be provided if needed):
· Harness
· Helmet
· 1-2 locking carabiners
Bios
Jason Calvert (Tech Rope Lead)
Jason has been a member of the West Slope Eldorado County SAR technical rope team for the past three years and is currently the team lead. In addition to technical rope, Jason is also a Type 1 ground searcher. Jason has participated in several outside classes in technical rescue and is a certified Rope Rescue Technician, levels 1 and 2. In the summer of 2018, Jason attended an Offset Highline Rescue workshop taught by Reed Thorne with Ropes that Rescue.
Gary Kring (Tech Rope Trainer)
Gary has been a member of the West Slope Eldorado County SAR technical rope team for the past nine years and is currently the trainer mentor. In addition to technical rope experience with the team, as shown above, Gary has participated in several outside training workshops taught by Reed Thorne of Ropes That Rescue. He has been active with National Ski Patrol as a trainer for chair lift evacuation and high angle rescue. Gary is an avid rock climber, and has spent several years climbing, mostly on the west coast.
Sean Winterer (Tech Rope Trainer)
Sean has been a member of the West Slope Eldorado County SAR technical rope team for the past six years and is currently one of their trainers. In addition to his tech. rope experience with the team, Sean has participated in several outside training workshops such as the Team Skills Workshop taught by Reed Thorne of Ropes that Rescue. He also holds a California State Fire Marshall Rescue Systems 1 certification as well as having been an avid rock climber for 14 years, climbing in many areas of Utah, Wyoming, and California.
