The goals of the course are to review the following:
-How to properly condition your dog to prevent injury
-How to properly warm-up and cool-down a working dog
-Common injuries and how to treat them in the field
-When is formal rehabilitation indicated and what does it entail
-Where to seek care from a licensed rehabilitation professional
BIOS
Jenny Jones, PT, MS, DPT, CCRT
Dr. Jones graduated from Boston University with a Masters degree in physical therapy in January 2003 and earned her doctorate in physical therapy in 2007. She has practiced in pediatrics her entire career and continues to work with children and adults, in addition to her work with animals. Dr. Jones joined SAGE Veterinary Centers in September 2009 as part of the physical rehabilitation department. She completed her certification from the Canine Rehabilitation Institute in 2010 as a certified canine rehabilitation therapist. Dr. Jones has a special interest in orthotics/prosthetics, neurology, manual therapy, rehab for cats, and behavior. She believes in building trust for low-stress handling and making rehab fun for both the patient and their people. In her free time, she can usually be found at the beach with her two dogs, Murray and Miko, or training for triathlons.
Jill Kuhl, MSPT, DPT, CCRT
Dr. Kuhl is a native to Northern California, where she grew-up exploring neighborhood creeks and backpacking in the Sierra Nevadas. She currently resides in San Jose with her husband and the “Kuhl Family Farm,” which currently consists of various foster animals, dogs, cats, chickens, fish and bees. Dr. Kuhl received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego in 2007. Then, she moved back up to Northern California, where she earned her Masters and Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of California, San Francisco in 2011. Dr. Kuhl has 7 years of experience as a certified canine rehabilitation therapist, and she continues to treat humans in pediatrics and orthopedics. She has also participated in non-profit medical work in Haiti, Guatemala and Peru with Los Medicos Voladores (The Flying Doctors). Her favorite part of physical therapy is helping both humans and animals get back to the things they love to do!
