Drone Ops: Adding UAS Capabilities to your SAR program
This classroom session will cover the benefits and limitations of UAS aircraft to a SAR program to help teams assess if its an asset that would be worthwhile to pursue. Legal requirements and restrictions will be discusses moving into a walk-through of the process to obtain an FAA Certificate Of Authorization and Part 107 pilots certificate. Time will be allotted for Q&A.
Bio
Deputy Jared Melton started in SAR at age 19, volunteering for 4 years in Ground and as a founding member of a sierra Mountain Rescue Team, before moving into Law Enforcement. He has been a Deputy Sheriff for 19 years and is currently a Patrol Deputy for El Dorado County Sheriffs Office, collaterally assigned as a Search & Rescue Coordinator and to the UAS team. He was the project lead in starting his agency's UAS unit, wrote the agency's UAS operations manual, drafted and obtained COA's, assists with training coordination and holds a part 107 pilots certificate.
