Practical deployment and use of SAR dogs
This course is designed for SAR managers, as well as SAR personnel likely to be deployed with SAR dogs. This will give the practical use of SAR dogs- both when and why to use dogs, as well as when dogs aren’t the right tool. SAR Managers will learn the best times and places to deploy dogs and flankers will learn how to support the dog team. SAR Managers will also learn how to preserve a scene for dog teams and basic info on scent article collection. A question and answer forum will follow class.
Bio
Trish Moutard has been a dog handler since 1992, having trained 7 dogs to Mission Ready status in Area, HRD (land and water), Basic Urban Disaster, as well as Evidence and Firearms. She was the K-9 unit leader for Butte County Sherrif ‘s Search and Rescue for over 10 years, and served on the board of both BCSAR and CARDA. She has been IC, OPs and Dog Ops on numerous searches, as well as deploying on over 100 searches throughout the state of CA. She has taught Dog Ops for SAR teams and managers (this class),Medical Considerations for the SAR dog, Clue Awareness, and Flanker Skills for dog teams. She is currently training her 8th dog in Area and Cadaver. In her paid profession, she is a Registered Veterinary Technican, serving as the medical supervisor for the Oceanside Campus of the San Diego Humane Society.
