This is aimed at K9 handlers who want to learn more techniques to use in the field during searches when obstacles come up. It will go over how to tackle the start of a trail, cross country, multiple decision points, contamination, articles, scent void and other items. Also how to incorporate into your training regimen.

Shay Cook has been training with K9 SAR since 1995 in Trailing, Cadaver and Wilderness Area. She is a member of California Rescue Dog Association (CARDA), Alameda County Sheriff Search and Rescue (ALCO), Marin County Sheriff Search and Rescue and Yosemite Search and Rescue Dog Team (YODOGS). Shay has been training dogs since 1986 and has worked with dogs in Schuzthund, guide dogs for the blind, obedience, socialization and scent detection. Shay works at UC Berkeley and currently working on exploring “Scent Navigation” with other researchers throughout the country. She currently is working one dog, Zinka, in Trailing and Cadaver, and training a new puppy, Wren, in Cadaver
