To create a body of work that represents something that inspires us as individuals and as artists by the use of image-making and motion graphics. The result will then be displayed on Yagan Tower to showcase to the audience.
My concept for this project was inspired by my love for character design and illustrations. I wanted to create something that I wanted myself to feel proud of and to push myself out of my comfort zone, so I decided to do character illustrations and use the theme of fashion with items inside to create the motion graphic instead of the character itself. So, as my characters, I illustrated myself in both forms of past and future.
The past self represents my youth, things that are sentimental to me with interests and hobbies. On the other hand, the future self represents how I want to perceive myself in the future, to let myself grow with new experiences and goals and blossom with new confidence.
My process consisted of various sketch mock-ups that allowed me to visualise what I wanted to illustrate. By using various inspirations from independent illustrating artists I follow on Instagram, I was able to create illustrations that displayed themes and items that represented themes, symbols and items of my life and interests. I decided to make things interesting to make the character look like a sticker, and by creating illustrated polaroids as the background that follow my theme and also display my future goals. As for motion graphics, the only thing that was going to be animated was the clothing designs and the background, keeping it simple yet impactful in terms of storytelling.
