Foundations of Art

REFLECTION

Foundations of Art this year was a really mixed bag. What I mean by that is that we really covered many forms of art in one year. Some of them were fun and I was interested in, and others I was not as interested in. For example, this year I really like linear perspective. I even did my independent project on it. It just makes the most sense to me and I do it better than the other projects. One that I didn't like was scratchboard. I understood the process of making different values by scratching and that would reveal an image, but I just couldn't do it right and then all of my scratchboard projects would not look like how I had envisioned them.

Out of this whole year, I think my favorite pieces I have made were my surrealist painting because I thought it was pretty funny. I also liked my independent project because I really like linear perspective and I think the final product came out really good and clean because of the sharpie and how there were no pencil marks. My other favorite was the color grid painting with the 84 colors. Although that project didn't come out perfect, it still looks cool if you stand far away from it.

I think that I met the standards this year because as an artist, I have definitely grown this year. Looking at some of my time capsule drawings from the beginning of the year to some of the drawings and paintings that I did later you can tell there was a large change. Art is just a skill that only gets better by practice. I'm clearly not a professional artist but I have been getting better. This class did stress me out though because there was some work that had to be done at home and there were a lot of due dates to handle at once.
