Zoomed Shoe

The subject of these is an extreme close up of a drawing of my shoe. The one on the right features three panels. The first panel is a zoomed in portion of a drawing of my shoe. The second panel is a zoomed in version of the first panel, and the final panel is a zoomed in section of the second panel. The one on the left is an extended recreation of the second panel, rotated 90º counter-clockwise. These were made using a pencil, a ruler, paper, and colored pencils. For the one on the right, I used the same viewfinder each time to capture the correct amount of the original image. This assignment was to draw 3 zoomed pieces of our shoe and the assignment on the left was to extend one of them.

In both of these pieces, I used framing. Each one has a border, and the panels on the left have borders in between each other as well. I also used soft focus by drawing with lighter pencils and lightly shading with colored pencils. There were no evolutions to the piece. For once, I knew what I was going to do from the beginning and executed it to my satisfaction.

The story behind them could be one that inspires curiosity in the viewer. If you did not know that it was a zoomed in shoe, then it would be very difficult to guess in the image on the left. The image on the right provides more context for the whole project by showing the zooming process. This relates to my life because it was my shoe, I'm the one who drew it, and I know more about what the whole shoe looks like because I wear them almost every day. I wish that the second and third panels on the right had more interesting compositions. However, once I had zoomed in that far, there was nothing much more than lines.
