Negative Space Leaves

The object of this assignment was to put some leaves on a small piece of paper and draw them on a larger piece of paper but only to draw the outline. To draw this, I just used a pencil to draw the lines of the outline and to put the design in the negative space. After that I used colored pencils to fill in the lines and add color. To make this we just drew the outline of leaves, then when I was making the background I tried to use curved lines to add texture to the background. Then I chose red orange and yellow to show sharp contrast from the white space.

This entire piece was based around using silhouette lighting to draw the outline of a clump of leaves. I also used framing. The actual picture has a border although it was cropped out for this photo. The difficult part of this project was to make sure I had the proportions right. The clump of leaves that we based this drawing off of was a lot smaller so to draw the outline, I had to make sure I had the proportions exactly right. Also, I didn't plan on coloring the background, I initially just wanted to leave the curved lines because if I had done it neat enough it would have given the negative space volume.

The story behind the artwork is that the negative space is an outline line of the leaves, and the background is red orange and yellow, which are the colors that the leaves change too in fall. This relates to my life because it is fall right now. If i were to redo it, I would do a better job coloring because it is visibly sloppy.
