Scratchboard

The subject of this piece is Stonehenge in England. This was made using a scratchboard and scraping off the black layer to show a white layer underneath. I chose to make this because the photo reference had a strong composition and I thought that it would be easy to make.

I used formal balance. The objects on the piece are evenly distributed from left to right and there is no space that is devoid of objects. After I finished this one, I started working on a second draft, that was much better for a number of reasons, unfortunately I didn't finish the second draft in time so this is the only completed one.

The story behind this is that I went to stone henge and took a cool photo. Then I tried making a scratchboard version which ended poorly. It relates to my life because I took the photo, and I carved it. I wish I could have finished the second draft on time, even though it didn't look especially great, it better fit the criteria for the assignment.
