Linoleum Prints

The subject of these are a roman aqueduct in Spain. However, each of these prints in a slightly different style. From left to right: alternative surface, extended, multicolor, solid color. These prints were made using a linoleum stamp, ink, paper, and colored sharpies. For this project, we had to pick one of our own photographs and reduce the colors to only black and white. I would cover the stamp in ink and then I would press it onto paper to get a print. For the multi color one, I mixed black and blue ink to create a pattern that is simiar to a night sky. For the extended one I used sharpies to draw the shapes. I went through several photos before choosing this one because this one had the most interesting composition while still being able to vaguely recognize the subject matter.

In these, I used silhouette lighting because there is only 2 shades in 3 of them, and the only one with more is an extended version. For the multicolor print, the one that is photographed and turned in is not my original. I had a different multicolor print that was slightly better that I had intended to turn in but it was misplaced. So I elected to turn in an alternate print. Thankfully my alternate print was not awful.

The meaning behind these prints, is that I went to Spain and saw an aqueduct. The prints are a cool reminder of the time I spent there. They relate to my life because they may not appeal to a broader audience, but I have a connection with the subject matter. I wish I found my multicolor print or that I could have made a cooler one because in hindsight, black and blue were stupid colors to mix.
