The subject of these drawings is my han d with an elastic band wrapped around the fingers and the draw. These were made with just a piece of paper and 2 different pencils, one was darker and one was thinner. The assignment for the first one was to wrap a rubberband around our fingers in whatever way and then to draw it. The assignment for the second one was to draw a shoe from three different angles. After making quick sketches of each, I erased the lines and went over them with a darker pencil This project was centered around our use of lines to show depth in this contour drawing. Also the darker the lines would provide more contrast against the background.
In these pieces, I used sharp focus and leading lines to show that this drawing is centered around sharp and defining lines. Originally the drawings were made with a lighter pencil and they were not very exact. It started out as wavy and thin lines to provide an outline of the correct proportions for my hands and my shoes. Then I went back over them with darker lines and erased the lighter ones as I went through.
The story behind the artwork on the left is that it is purely just a hand. The most interesting thing about this drawing is the scar at the base of my thumb which makes it slightly more interesting than just a hand. The piece on the right is just my shoe and that is the story. These projects relate to my life because it is my hand, and my shoe and I drew them so that's probably as close as it gets. If I were to edit this, I would add more contrast between the rubber band and my fingers. I would also probably add a background. Even a basic one would suffice. On the shoe drawing, I would go over the lines and work more on showing depth and value. Then I would add texture by drawing patterns.
