Independant Project

The subject of this drawing is based on the interior of my house. This was made using paper, a pencil, a ruler, an eraser, and a sharpie. Before drawing in each aspect of the drawing, I would lightly sketch it in pencil to see if I liked how it looked. If I liked it, then I would go over it with sharpie and the ruler to get strong contrast and strait lines. Then I would erase any left over pencil marks and just the sharpie would remain. If I didn't like how the sketch looked, I would just erase it which was the advantage to drawing lightly. I chose to make a linear perspective drawing for my independent project because that was my favorite project of the year, and the only one that came out how I had imagined it.

In this piece, I used framing because there is a border around the drawing which I cropped out of the photo. I also used sharp focus by drawing in black and white with the sharpies to create strong contrast between the paper and the lines. My project evolved a lot because initially I was going to draw the picture off of a photo reference of my house, but after I repeatedly forgot to take one I just improvised. This drawing is similar to my house, but some furniture and minor details are different than my actual house.

The story behind this drawing is that it is supposed to be my house. This is only meaningful to me and probably a small handful others because random people seeing this obviously would not recognize my house. This relates to my life because my house was the subject and because I am the one who drew it. The thing that bugs me is that in the center, on the floor, there is a large area of negative space and I couldn't come up with a good way to fill it up.
