Value Strip

The subject is a strip of 10 1 inch by 1 inch boxes, each is filled with a different design, the designs are supposed to get darker from left to right. To start, I had the papers that was 3 inches by 12 inches, then I marked out a 1 inch border and divided the rectangle into 10 sections. Then, using a fine tipped pen I drew a design in each box and tried to make them get darker and darker. To make this I used very precise lines. I used the fine tip pen to be sure that I placed the lines exactly where I wanted them.

This piece definitely used framing. It has a border and each segment is easy to tell apart from its neighbor. I also balanced it nicely in each of the sections. Well after I had thought that I was done, as a class we hung ours up and stepped back to see if we could really see the change in value along the strip, I realized then that I could revise several of my boxes to show a more steady progression from light to dark.

This art doesn't have a deeper meaning. It just shows how different designs can show different values on the strip. This relates to my life because the different boxes on the strip can represent different moods, and as you go farther right, they get darker and slightly more chaotic. If I were to fix it, I would change the 7th 8th and 9th boxes. I think that they look to similar and if I were to revise it I would show more contrast between the 2.
