Candy Still Life

The subject of this drawing is a open bag of Skittles with several Skittles scattered around the opening. I made this by starting with simple sketches made in pencil, after I had the basic idea of what I wanted to draw, I used colored pencils to add color. Lastly, I put a small pencil mark under each skittle and blended it with my finger to create shadows. These drawings are based off of models. For mine, I opened a bag of skittles and hot glued each item onto a viewfinder to use as a reference for my drawing.

To make this, I used framing. In the original drawing, there is a border around the artwork which I cropped out. I also used soft focus by making using softer lines and coloring, it makes the whole drawing look fainter and softer. The hardest part of this assignment was drawing each Skittle. Each one was at a slightly different angle making it really difficult to capture the right size and shape because none were perfect circles. I did my best but it is still easy to tell that some of them are not quite the right size or shape.

When I was a kid Skittles were my favorite candy so when we had to choose a candy to draw I picked Skittles easily. This project relates to my life because Skittles used to be my favorite candy. If I could fix one thing, it would be to burnish more especially on the Skittles. The wrapper could definitely use a little bit of burnishing but I think the Skittles need it more because I purposely drew them lightly to show the lighting.
