What is Love

The subject of this image is my girlfriend Piper. I had known I wanted take photos of Piper for this project from the moment it was announced. I was at her house one day after school and because the assignment was "Love is..." I used her as the subject of this project. The lighting wasn't the best because of the time of night, so I had to use flash, which actually turned out pretty well, I took several but these two were my favorite. I chose to create this image because I wanted to show how beautiful she is.

I used selective focus in both, as well as formal balance in the first, and informal balance in the second. I really liked the contrast between her hair and the sky behind her in the second image as well. I took probably about a dozen pictures initially, in a few different places outside, trying to incorporate nature into the shot, which just ended up being us outside. I had hoped to get better lighting but by the time I remembered it was later in the evening and I had to use flash rather than natural lighting to see her.

I wanted to try and capture Piper as I see her, as the beautiful person she is. She was initially reluctant to let me take pictures of her but I eventually persuaded her, and this is the result. Piper and I had been dating just shy of six months, which while not super super long is still a hefty period of time, and I wanted to use her in this project. I wish I had better lighting than just the flash of my camera, I like to avoid using flash especially on landscapes, they don't look quite as good, despite that I fell that these two images turned out rather well, although that's probably just because Piper is beautiful.
