I decided I wanted to do a landscape photo, and initially wanted to take a picture in the woods behind my house, but couldn’t decide on a shot I liked, then I saw the way the light fell on the trees, and decided to take a picture and edit it so that it felt like an image that was kind of a hybrid of the two artists, the subject of Tim Long’s photographs, but the lighting and look of Lori Nix’s. I took several pictures, some with my house on the edge, some where you can see the posts that hold up the roof of my porch, but settled on one that just looked out and away from my house.
I initially wanted to do a diorama first, but found I couldn’t make one that I liked, so I decided to kind of use some of the lighter colors from Lori Nix’s photographs, because while I liked the subject of Tim Long’s photographs, the duller, kind of muted colors weren’t really what I was looking for. I also wish that the photos didn’t have houses in them, but the image was too good to pass up, even with the houses.
I wanted the the clouds, so everything feels a little dreary, but with the sun coming through and shining on the trees, as a kind of ray of hope.
